Dan Clews, of whom George Martin said "He is too great a talent to ignore..", played his very first gig in the candlelit venue The Barge in Gillingham last night.

Working with a heavy cold, Dan played his music to a very appreciative audience and even though the low light meant photography was difficult, some really atmospheric shots were captured of this talented Kent musician.

Saturday night saw The Good Ship Band play their first public performance in 2010 and the night could not have got off to a worse start. Documenting their progress over the next year to create a photoessay means I get to spend a lot of time with the guys, including the hours of waiting and setting up that is involved that fans never see.

5.15 Saturday night and the resident drum kit is a pile of junk with rips, tears and bits missing. Simon, The Good Ship Band drummer, calls Ed to tell him his car is making ' funny noises ' and he doesn't trust it for the trip so heads home to catch the train up and Jez, lead singer, is on his way back from Notting Hill after picking up a spare bass guitar for Jim after he found his other basses locked away in Tonbridge.

The candid image above is Ed Bingham trying to co-ordinate things whilst waiting to set up and sound check.

As with all these things, the best laid plans sometimes fall to bits but nobody who watched these guys put in a polished performance of new and old material would have been any the wiser.

</rss:item><rss:item rdf:about="http://www.mixphotography.co.uk/photo-blog/2010/2/8/ross-and-the-wrongens-the-forum-tunbridge-wells.html"><rss:title>Ross and the Wrongens @ The Forum, Tunbridge Wells</rss:title><rss:link>http://www.mixphotography.co.uk/photo-blog/2010/2/8/ross-and-the-wrongens-the-forum-tunbridge-wells.html</rss:link>

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

Ross and the Wrongens image by Mick Buston | music photographer

Ross and the Wrongens kicked off a lively night of rock and roll at its best at The Forum, Tunbridge Wells alongside Give Get Given supporting Rev 78.

Ross and the Wrongens were minus guitarist Billy for the night but the set was not comprised by this and was easily made up for with the pure energy of front man Ross, bass guitarist Nils and Sam on drums.

This is band photography at its hardest - low light and a lead that is harder to capture than an eel with wet hands but the experience was the greater for the challenges this awesome band threw up.

Lead singer Teddy Quick led a full energy set by Rev 78 at The Forum, Tunbridge Wells 05-02-2010. This band was a delight to photograph with the enigmatic front man, think Ian Curtis / Morrisey, leading a stunning performance to round off what was a great night of rock and roll with supporting performances by Give Get Given and Ross and the Wrongens.

But this band is more than just a charasmatic lead singer. David Gritzman puts in a stunning performance on guitar, at one point bent double lost in his instrument. On bass, James Laff could be mistaken for Eric Clapton for his relaxed style contrasting with the full power performance from Dan Gritzman on drums.
