Medway band The Deccas

Music photography by (C) Mick Buston. Wes Wren, lead singer with The Deccas, during an impromptu set at The BargeWes Wren, lead singer with Medway based band The DeccasDave Sawicki, bass player with Kent based mod band The DeccasPhi Crane, guitar and backing vocals for The DeccasLast night I was due to meet Medway-based mod revisionist band The Deccas in a bar in Gillingham to discuss a music photography project.  3 hours into the meeting, and with the very kind assistance of Matt the sound engineer at The Barge Pub, we were all treated to an impromptu short acoustic set of some of their most popular material.

Before the performace we had already agreed to work together on a long-term photo essay project to chart the bands progress through 2010 as they work through a comprehensive gig schedule to promote the release of their latest album"Ways To The Sun" available at gigs and via thier MySpace page www.myspace.com/thedeccas.

My role as their music photographer will be to capture the essence of the band in a series of photographs captured from a variety of sessions including rehearsals, recording, live gigs and festivals and scooter rallies over the course of the next 6-12 months.  In addition to being their official music photograper, my role will include editing the images in order to showcase only the very best work that we can for use in promotional material, press releases, press packs and ultimately a high quality portfolio for their web space.

For me this is a real treat, not only as a music photographer, but also as a music lover as 25 years ago I was a young mod myself strutting around Medway in Chelsea boots, Fred Perrys, Boating Blazers and Parkas so I am really in my element working with this talented four piece from Medway.

N.B Yes this is a four piece but last night drummer Tony Etherington was relegated to the far reaches of the stage and with completely no light on him we couldn't get any images of sufficient quality.  I will address this at rehearsals on Monday and provide a showcase blog post for Tony on his own early next week.
